Protect your healthy, carefree smile with regular dental cleanings at our office
My Dental and Implants in Glendale, Arizona, is an all-important partner in your oral health journey. Even low-risk patients who consistently and diligently brush and floss their teeth require regular visits to our office. We have access to specialized tools and techniques that can remove the stubborn substances that promote the development of tooth decay and gum disease. These conditions are the leading causes of tooth loss. A comprehensive oral exam typically follows such professional cleaning services. Our dentist, Dr. Nima Afzalian, can detect problems early when they produce little to no symptoms. Intervening with early-stage disease or decay usually means less invasive, tissue-preserving treatment, which is also more affordable and less time-consuming than restorative treatments to rebuild tissue or even an entire tooth!
Why all patients benefit from routine cleanings
Congratulations on cleaning your teeth consistently and thoroughly at home! It is critical, however, that home care be complemented by professional dental care. Bacterial plaque erodes the teeth, gums, and eventually the supportive tissues and bone. Plaque is constantly forming on the teeth. So, even the most careful brushers and flossers cannot possibly remove all plaque. And, once it builds up or hardens, it can only be removed with professional tools and expertise. Our hygienists are skilled at removing such stubborn tartar or calculus in a gentle way that doesn’t irritate or damage delicate oral tissues. They can also ensure that all such plaque is removed, effectively preventing the progressive damage caused by hardened bacterial plaque.
Foremost, professional cleanings are a precise and well-tolerated way to keep your teeth, gums, and mouth healthy. They also keep your breath fresh and smelling great. Cleanings also present one of the best ways to keep your smile looking great and to prolong the effects of professional teeth whitening. As our hygienists remove bacteria, plaque, and tartar, they also lift surface stains from the teeth.

FAQs
What is deep cleaning?
Deep cleaning is a general wording for the dental term Scaling and Root Planing (SRP). If you refer to the photo below, you can see the difference between healthy gums and gum disease. The gum protects the tooth and bone. It creates a seal between the oral cavity and the bone. This way, no bacteria can infect the bone. When bacteria break that seal, the microorganisms start penetrating the bone via diseased gum and eat up the bone. This will eventually cause bone loss around teeth and the possibility of tooth mobility and eventually loosening it.
How does deep cleaning help with gum disease?
With a deep cleaning or SRP, all buildups and bacteria breaking the seal between your gums and teeth are cleaned mechanically (with hygiene instruments) and chemically with irrigations. Follow-up care is critical to avoid another round of deep cleaning.
What does follow-up care after deep cleaning involve?
Follow-up care is regular cleaning every three months, brushing two times a day, flossing three times a week, and taking prescribed mouth rinses on a daily basis.
