Tooth Implant Process in Glendale AZ Area

When considering your options to replace missing teeth in the smile, you may feel as though this is a daunting task. There are many tooth replacement solutions available at local dental practices that can make it challenging to choose the right one for you. At My Dental and Implants in Glendale, Arizona, Dr. Nima Afzalian and his team of professionals can help you choose the appropriate solution for your unique needs. Those considering dental implants may have questions about the restoration, the process of placement, and what they can expect long term. Read on to learn more about these.

What is a dental implant?

Dr. Nima Afzalian describes the dental implant as a tooth root replacement device made of a metal called titanium, which is biocompatible with the human body. It is placed directly into the jawbone and restored over the abutment above the gum line with a crown, bridge, or denture.

What is the process of placing a tooth implant?

First, patients consult with Dr. Nima Afzalian to determine if they are a good candidate for dental implants. Then, preparations are made, including taking a series of dental X-rays to plan for implant placement in the jawbone. Oral surgery is scheduled, during which the implant is placed and the gums are sutured. The area will need several weeks to heal as the bone of the jaw grows around the implant to hold it in place. Then it is ready for restoration.
