My Dental and Implants Eases Pain and Restores Health with Gentle, No-stress Tooth Extractions
While My Dental and Implants focuses on helping you preserve your 32 teeth for life, sometimes, your beloved tooth may need removal. Impacted wisdom teeth, extra teeth, and severely damaged teeth present situations where Dr. Nima Afzalian may recommend extraction.
Few patients look forward to oral surgery, but sometimes, it’s necessary to maintain your oral health. When dental extractions are necessary, we always prioritize your comfort and safety. Thanks to modern dentistry, we offer gentle yet effective extractions in Glendale, Arizona, regardless of the extraction type.
Root canal treatment (or “root canal therapy”) resolves inflammation and infection at the innermost part of the tooth, its pulp tissue, or the pulp chamber. RCT eases and treats toothaches caused by deep decay and severe damage. When performed precisely by our dentists, it also helps patients avoid the need for extractions or teeth removal. There are many destructive consequences of tooth removal, including bone loss. So, it is critical that we promptly intervene with problems and do everything we can to preserve natural teeth. If extractions cannot be avoided, we recommend prompt replacement with modern options – like dental implants.
Our approach
Root canal treatment is associated with being painful. The therapy itself is not painful. The toothaches that lead to the need for treatment can be very uncomfortable. Additionally, there are many modern products and techniques to make RCT as comfortable as possible. For instance, My Dental and Implants use laser dentistry. The damaged tissue inside the tooth may be removed gently, non-invasively, thoroughly, and quickly by directing a laser device toward the treatment area. The energy from the light beam goes to work, removing debris and infected tissue. Also, lasers present an effective way to sterilize the tooth. This approach to RCT minimizes the need for numbing anesthetic and side effects associated with conventional techniques. Laser root canal therapy further promotes fast healing without the risk of complications such as swelling. With our precision approach to treatment, there is typically no need to refer patients to an endodontic specialist for retreatment or surgical endodontic procedures to resolve damage to the pulp.
After the canals have been thoroughly cleaned and sterilized, they are shaped and filled to protect the treatment site. The “finishing touch” is typically a dental crown to restore the strength and structure of the damaged tooth. With proper oral care, at home and at our office, root canal-treated teeth require no further treatment. Oral conditions, such as tooth decay and gum disease, are progressive. There are many opportunities to stop or even reverse their effects. So, do not wait for concerns such as pain and swelling to arise before calling us at (623) 300-2550. Our office is located in Glendale and is privileged to serve the oral health needs of individuals and families from throughout the Sun City, Surprise, Peoria, Cave Creek, and greater Phoenix, AZ area.
Debunking Myths: The Truth About Root Canal Therapy
Root canal therapy is a very common procedure. It has a reputation of being undesirable and painful. But when done properly it is actually painless. Every tooth in your mouth is composed of a crown and a root. When a cavity or bacteria penetrates the tooth, the root and its nerves become irritated. As a result, the bacteria within the pulp cavity needs to be removed and cleaned in order to restore the tooth to its healthy state. Following the procedure, the tooth is fragile and consequently is restored with the natural crown for a lifetime of durability. Root canals have a success rate of 95% or greater. Most root canal are diagnosed by patients’ sensitivities to a specific tooth. Be sure to consult your dentist any symptoms or discomfort occur.
What Are Root Canals? Understanding the Procedure
What are root canals? Root canals is basically each tooth that we have, it’s consisted of a nerve and the nerve is in an area in the tooth, which is called pulp chamber. The pulp chamber is consisted of the nerve and all the blood supply that gets into the tooth. When we have extreme cavity and it’s getting into that pulp chamber, the cavity will infect the pulp chamber. As a result of that, your nerve and all the blood supply gets infected, and that’s when you feel that severe hot and cold sensitivity and also throbbing pain that wakes you up at night. At that point, we know that definitely you need a root canal. With the process of the root canal, we basically go in there and remove the infected pulp chamber, which is consisted of the nerve and blood supply, and clean that with chemicals and mechanically, and then we put a filling material in there. Basically, the tooth at this point is no longer alive, but it’s still your natural tooth. It’s a little bit more brittle compared to your natural tooth because the blood supply is not there. But this is a great way to save your teeth and then protect it with a crown.
